About two out of three men experience hair loss by age 60, and most of the time it's due to a disorder called androgenic alopecia. Androgenic means masculine and alopecia means loss of hair. It is also known as male pattern baldness or 'male type alopecia'. This type of hair loss, which is caused by a combo of genes and male sex hormones, usually follows a classic pattern in which the hair recedes at the temples, leaving an M-shaped hairline. Other types of hair loss conditions include autoimmune disorders such as alopecia areata, alopecia barbae (facial hair loss), alopecia totalis, alopecia universalis or other created conditions such as trichotillomania, traction alopecia, or hair loss caused by the use of certain medications such as chemotherapy.

Heredity related baldness affects about 25 percent of men who are under 30 and 50 percent of men who are under age 60. It is believed that 94-96 percent of all Caucasian men suffering from hair loss noticing the first symptoms shortly after puberty. Almost half of all men are thus predestined to lose a little hair on the forehead and crown if they do not take steps to prevent this. In African and Asian ethnic groups, the proportion of men who suffer from hair loss is lower than in Caucasians.

So, we know it is not a consolation but you are not the only one! Throughout their life more than 70 % of men will start to experience some form of hair loss. Whether this be in your teenage years or later, when hair loss starts to happen it can be devastating, and soon you can be looking in the mirror to find someone who just doesn’t look like you anymore. The good news is that there is a solution for it.
