Your Frequently Asked Questions
Q. Am I a good candidate for hair transplantation?
A. This question is mostly raised by young candidates, less than 30 years old. To have a perfect answer, the doctor has to check the quality of your hair and the condition of your baldness and hair loss. When a face to face examination is not possible, sending a photo would be enough for the evaluation. Based on my own professional point of view, if the candidate is not in a fast and active hair loss status, it can be done. It will not harm him.
Q. How long should I use Finasteride or Minoxidil to see the maximum effect and then decide whether go for hair transplantation or continue the medication?
A. In my opinion, taking an adequate dose of medication in six months is the optimum duration time.
Q. Should I prefer FUT OR FUE?
A. This question was maybe logical before 2008. Since then, FUE technique has advanced a lot. Nowadays all experienced centers prefer FUE extraction. It is absolutely in very rare cases where FUT method is recommended.
Q. How long does a hair transplant surgery take?
A. The treatment takes roughly 4-8 hours depending on the amount of the grafts needed to be transplanted.
Q. Which kind of anesthesia will be applied?
A. For these kinds of operations, local anesthesia is enough. In order to reduce the patient anxiety, however, I apply small amount of Xanax before local anesthesia.
Q. What is the most important side effect of the operation?
A. The most important side effect is swelling of forehead and face. It starts three days after the operation. If the patient takes care of himself and rest properly; not bend the head (for example, working with computer), the symptoms will not appear. Even if it happens ,you won't need any therapy. It will resolve spontaneously within a couple of days.
